National Payroll Week celebrates the economic, cultural, and social achievements of employees across America. As a collective group of payroll providers and together with payroll withholding, we contribute, collect, report, and deposit 70% of the U.S. Treasury’s annual revenue, about $2.4 trillion per year.
I entered the payroll industry when I was still a student attending Cal Poly Pomona. While I did not set-out to become the CEO of an independent payroll company, I did have my sights on the banking industry. I felt that the payroll industry would add value to my accounting skills, would give me a foundation with the movement of money, and pave the way for me to work for a bank.
As a young professional working for Peter and Elizabeth Carroll, founders, President & CEO of Southland Data Processing, I learned how important it is to serve the business community and its employees. I learned the importance of a paycheck and how essential it is that payroll be processed efficiently, correctly and in a manner that provides clients with confidence. I liked the feeling of making a difference and being a resource clients could rely on.
Needless to say, I never pursued a banking career. I expanded the strong foundation I was given and am proud of how we have grown Southland Data Processing to offer more than payroll processing. As you may know, this year marks my 30th anniversary with SDP. It has been an extraordinary experience to be part of a team that has developed this company into a total solution for our clients.
The payroll industry moves fast. We must maintain the pace of ensuring continual compliance with industry standards, technology, and regulatory changes. We tirelessly pursue innovation, education and new initiatives so that we may create value for our clients, their employees, and ensure that we are a strong, stable and successful business partner.
